The building housing the Guyana Agency for Health Sciences Education, Environment and Food Policy (GAHEF) at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara was destroyed by fire early this morning.
The structure also housed several other health facilities. Dozens of health workers will have to be relocated. Firemen were on the scene this morning still dousing embers. The wooden building had been built decades ago and went up in flames quickly.
It was once the location of the famous Carib Hotel run by the Yasins.
The cause of the fire is still unclear.
