Georgetown defeated East Coast by 16 runs to win the Demerara Cricket Board’s U15 Inter-Zone competition Friday at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
Batting first upon winning the toss, Georgetown posted 112-6 in their innings which was reduced to 30 overs with Kurt Lovell top scoring with 44. He received support from the tournament’s leading scorer Alphius Bookie who made 19. Bowling for East Bank,
Anthony Antonio, the only bowler with a hat trick in the tournament finished with 2-30 in support of Paul Thomas who had figures of 2-10.
In reply East Bank were bowled out for 96 inside of the 30th over with Bhojnarine Singh making 22. Ashmead Nedd took two wickets for the champions to take his tally of wickets to six in three matches.
Over at Wales, East Coast batsmen laboured to 85-6 in 30 overs to complete a four wicket victory over West Demerara. West Demerara showing good improvement in their last two games after being bundled for 13 in their first round match was sent in to bat by the visitors who restricted them to 85 all out in 30.5 overs. Ganesh Jitlall was the only batsman to reach double figure as he top scored with 37, while extras contributed 22 of his team’s eventual total.
Bhasker Yadram, national player and East Coast captain took 4-17, receiving support from off spinner Pradesh Balkishun who took 3-22. Needing 86 for victory, East Coast struggled to meet its target with the constant loss of wickets as victory was finally earned at the end of the 30th over to make it two out of three for East Coast in the competition. Yadram top scored with 14, while Ramdeo Basdeo (13*), Balkishun (11) and Robin Williams (10) gave support.
