St. Stanislaus College defeated arch-rivals Queen’s College 3-0 to clinch the u-18 title when the Business School teams table tennis tournament continued Sunday at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
Kevon Corbin defeated Ryan Narine 14-12, 12-10 and 11-9 to give St. Stanislaus the 1-0 lead. Elishaba Johnson would double their advantage, defeating Ron Chetram in straight sets by an 11-3, 11-7 and 11-5 score.
The title would be clinched in the doubles encounter as the team of Corbin and Johnson defeated Chetram and Narine 8-11, 11-8, 11-4 and 11-8.
In the u-15 section, Marian Academy-A emerged as champions as they defeated Mae-B by a 3-0 score. Pricilla Greaves opened the account for Marian Academy-A as she defeated Sandor Kanhai 11-6, 11-8 and 12-10.
Christy Lopes would make it 2-0, brushing aside Yoganand Mohadeo in straight sets 11-4, 11-7 and 13-11. They would clinch the title in the next match as the pair of Lopes and Greaves crushed the team of Kanhai and Mohadeo 11-9, 11-7 and 11-9.
In the third place off, Queen’s College-A defeated Mae-A by a 3-1 margin. Kim-Suing-Choung gave Queen’s College-A the early lead as he defeated Dante DaSilva 9-11, 11-7, 13-11, 10-12 and 11-8 in a hard fought contest.
Queen’s College would double their advantage as Clarence Baird easily defeated Jonathan Persaud 11-7, 13-11 and 11-8. Mae’s A would reduce the deficit to one as the team of DaSilva and Persaud defeated the pair of Baird and Choung 11-6, 10-12, 11-8 and 11-8.
However, Queen’s College would claim the title in the next encounter as Baird defeated DaSilva in straight sets 11-5, 11-4 and 14-12. Action continues today at the same venue with the singles segment.
