Copa Airlines has started to receive applications from prospective Guyanese employees for several positions being created locally in preparation for the airline’s start-up of service to Guyana on July 11, 2014.
A press release from the company said that starting last month the airline had advertised for several positions including sales manager, airport supervisors, sales executives, inside sales representatives and sales counter agents to support its operations in Guyana. It said that the response has been promising, almost overwhelming.
According to airline executives, the company expects to conclude the selection process by the end of March, and once the hiring process has been concluded, the airline will begin its training process with the selected staff.
Copa Airlines had announced in January its intention to begin operating two weekly flights out of Guyana in July. The flights will link Guyana to Copa’s ‘Hub of the Americas’ at Tocumen International Airport in Panama, and will increase travel options with connections throughout Copa Airlines’ extensive route network.
The airline expects that this will allow Guyanese passengers easier access to 69 destinations in 30 countries and should also open access to Guyana’s tourism products from more markets. The new route promises quicker access to destinations in North, South and Central America and to some destinations in the Caribbean, the release added.
