A teenager last evening died and several others were injured when the Toyota Tundra they were travelling in crashed into a tree at Roden Rust, East Bank Essequibo.
Dead is 14-year-old Ryan Bresceino called ‘Van Damme’, of Mora, East Bank Essequibo. Bresceino was also a third from student of the Parika-Salem Secondary School. He died while receiving treatment at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
Among those injured are Karan Gobin, Raoul Mohammed, Ronald Chan, Cynthia Chan, Ryan Nandlall, Angela (only name given), Sylvester (only name given), Ronnel (only name given) and Gerald (only name given). Mohammed, Ronald Chan, Gobin and Nandlall were all transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were all awaiting treatment up to press time. The others were treated at the West Demerara Hospital and sent away.
An aunt of the dead child said that the driver of the vehicle was at the home when he told her that he was going to play Phagwah. She said that her nephew and the others decided to “jump in the tray and say they going Phagwah too.”
The driver is at the Parika Station assisting with investigations.
