A thirty-three-year old peacemaker was fatally shot when he intervened in an argument between two men at 14 Miles, Issano Landing and a man is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Dead is thirty-three-year-old Selwyn Bess of Kaneville Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
Police in a release said that their initial investigations revealed that an argument developed among a group of men in a shop in the Region Seven mining area during which shots were discharged. The release added that Bess who was also in the shop was later found dead with a suspected gunshot injury to his chest.
His uncle told this newspaper that he last saw his nephew in January and that they are in the process of making arrangements to have Bess’s body brought to the city. His body is currently at the Bartica Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Bess leaves to mourn two children.
