Against the backdrop of increasing interest in the implications of the advent of the country’s first ever Credit Bureau as regards relationships between credit seekers and lending agencies, Creditinfo Guyana’s Chief Executive Officer Judy Semple-Joseph said that a team of high-level and internationally experienced experts are due in Guyana shortly to conduct a two-day workshop at the Cara Lodge Hotel. The workshop will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday, March 25 to 26.
The disclosure that Creditinfo Guyana is calling on experts from the Creditinfo Academy to engage local stakeholders, will be seen as an indication that the local Credit Bureau, officially launched last September, is keen to step up its services to the business community. Since the launch of the bureau six months ago public discussion about its role has centred around the confidentiality of personal information.
Semple-Joseph told Stabroek Business that next week’s workshop will focus primarily on risk management but will also provide instruction in the use and understanding of credit bureau data, how credit scoring works and scorecard development.
“Of particular interest also is the sharing of information on how to improve selection of prospective clients both for personal and business finance with the aim of reducing default risk,” Semple-Joseph added.
Participants drawn mainly from the financial and other areas of the private sector will benefit from knowledge transfer and “expert clarification” of issues pertaining to how the Credit Bureau works.
Semple-Joseph told Stabroek Business that given the “high level of public enquiry and interest that had arisen since the advent of the Credit Bureau next week’s workshop ought to be seen by stakeholders as an initiative designed to clear up misconceptions and emerge with an enhanced understanding of the Credit Bureau and how it can serve stakeholder interests.
Stabroek Business has learnt that Paul Randall, the lead facilitator at next week’s workshop is an international industry expert with more than 27 years of experience in credit risk management. Semple-Joseph said Randall’s delivery style favours audience participation techniques designed to create a highly interactive environment.
She said Randall has been active in the development of many new credit bureaus and in supporting the growth of existing ones.
