The Horticultural Society has announced that the annual Flower Show will be held on Saturday March 29 and Sunday March 30 at the Umana Yana, Kingston from 10 am to 6 pm each day.
There are 23 classes in which entries can be submitted. They range from a single bloom, to a potted plant, Cactus, Dish Gardens, Orchids, Culinary Herbs, Floral Arrangements and Ground Display. There is even a category which caters for children – in fact there is something for everyone.
Remember the judges will expect a high standard in all exhibits. Flowers must be at the best stage of development, well-shaped and well grown as well as free from diseases and pest damage. Groom your plants, ensure that damaged leaves are trimmed, leaves are cleaned and plant pots are uniform and clean.
Plants should be nurtured in their ideal environment, ie, foliage plants prefer indirect sunlight, while flowering plants prefer sunlight.
Commercial booths will be offering plants, fertilizers, garden accessories and tools for sale. There will also be a give-away of Miracle Gro samples.
Come and enjoy our Tea Shop and tasty snacks in a garden setting.
Good luck to all competitors.
Until next week, happy gardening!
