Lakeram Raghubir, who was found guilty in January of verbally abusing a lawyer, made another appearance in court on Friday, for allegedly insulting another woman.
Forty-nine-year-old Raghubir denied the charge which alleged that on March 16 at 132 Albert Street, he insulted Olinda Roberts.
According to the man’s representative, Raghubir and Roberts would often have tiffs, which would eventually be reported to the police by Roberts. In annoyance, the man said, the police finally acted upon her claims and charged Raghubir.
When asked whether Raghubir had ever been found guilty before the courts, the man’s lawyer stated that, to the best of his knowledge, his client had never been. However, Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry promptly informed the man that Raghubir had been recently convicted for using abusive language towards attorney-at-law Bettina Glasford.
Raghubir was placed on his own recognisance and will next have his matter heard before Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond in Court 10.
