Upsets would highlight the second day of the round of 16 knockout stage as Bishops’ High defeated North Ruimveldt Secondary 4-3 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 3-3, when the Milo/Petra Organization Schools Football tournament continued yesterday
Captain Nathaniel King would open the scoring for the Carmichael Street side with a 12th minute effort. Tyrese Rowley would level the scores seven minutes later, lobbing the onrushing Bishops’ custodian with a right footed shot from inside the centre of the penalty area.
Jamal Europe would push North Ruimveldt into the lead in the 34th minute as he stroked his effort down the middle of the goal from inside the area after receiving a pass from the top of the penalty box.
The scores would be levelled once again as Joel Morrison netted two minutes later with a 22-yard, right-foot strike from the centre of the field which inexplicably went straight through the hands of the North Ruimveldt custodian.
The fluctuating fortunes of the fixture would continue as Shemar DeSouza pushed North Ruimveldt back into the lead in the 54th minute, lobbing the advancing custodian with a right-foot strike from inside the right side of the penalty box.
However, Bishops’ would push the fixture into extra time, levelling the score line in the 64th minute compliments of an own goal by Elroy Europe.
Unable to be separated in the remaining 16 minutes of the extra time interval, Bishops’ would hold their nerve in the lottery that is the penalty shoot-out to seal the unlikely win.
In other results, Christ Church upset Chase Academy 4-2 on penalty kicks after normal time finished 2-2. Andre Trotz and Kadeem Blackman led the winners with goals in the 32nd and 45th minutes respectively. On target for the losers was Shamar Barrow in the 21st and 48th minutes.
Queenstown Secondary led by a Williamson DeSantos double in the 21st and 42nd minutes and a solitary strike from Nicholas McArthur in the 46th minute, defeated Carmel Secondary by a 3-1 score line. Netting for the losers was Moses Gritten in the 44th minutes.
St. George’s High, led by a Quincy Lawrence hat trick in the 16th, 51st and 53rd minutes and a Adolph George double in the 43rd and 45th minutes humiliated Tucville Secondary 11-2.
Completing the score line was Okeri Codrington, Seon Taylor, Ozeal Small, Niante Northe, Jamal Brown and Joshua Williams who netted in the 19th, 26th, 28th, 54th, 57th and 59th minutes respectively.
Netting in a losing effort were Calvin Peters and Keifer Brant in the 65th and 68th minutes respectively.
