Three litterbugs earned themselves 30 hours of community service each, after they pleaded guilty in a city court yesterday.
Sookram Ramnarine without hesitation accepted that he was caught discarding a quantity of “corn skins” at Merriman Mall Georgetown, on March 20.
It was the City Constabulary’s case that Ramnarine was caught dumping by a constable
who was on duty at approximately 18:04 hrs on the day in question.
According to City Constabulary Prosecutor James Garnett, Ramnarine was told of the allegation, arrested and taken to the City Constabulary Head Quarters, where he was charged. Magistrate Geeta-Chandan-Edmond subsequently sentenced Ramnarine to community service, six hours per day. He is to clean along Croal Street and South Road, between Avenue of the Republic and King Street.
Failure to complete the community service will result in the defendant going to jail for twenty days.
Also receiving the same hours of community service were Yasol Kalli and Roy Singh. They too according to Garnett, were caught dumping at Merriman Mall on March 20.
Both Kalli and Singh will perform their hours at the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, under the guidance of social worker Mc Bean.
