Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted $125,000 bail to a construction worker charged with stealing over $1.5M worth of clothing and household items.
Deonauth Samaroo, 49, of 45 Railway Street, Kitty pleaded not guilty to the charge of breaking and entering when he yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is the police’s case that Samaroo, between September 13, 2012 and the following day broke and entered the home of Rayan Braithwaite and stole 15 pairs of shoes, appliances and other household items, all to a total value of $1,677,000. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In applying for reasonable bail, the man’s lawyer said that her client’s presence in court was an indication that he was not a flight risk.
Prosecutor Michael Grant raised no objections to bail but instead suggested that it be set at a substantial sum due to the total value of the articles stolen.
Hence, the father of three was granted bail and ordered to appear in court on April 30 for statements.
