In a bid to renew the Cricketer Ambassador Programme, Western Union yesterday pumped $500, 000 worth of cricket gears and equipment into the future development of six young cricketers from Berbice.
The simple presentation ceremony was held at company’s main branch office on Water Street and featured Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC), Hilbert Foster and the six awardees; Akshay Homraj, Daniel Lewis,
Kevelon Anderson, Plafinna Millington, Shebika Gabjani and Shimar Flats of the Blairmont Cricket Club. Foster praised the company for its continued support which dates back to 2009.
“We at the management level of the club strongly believe in the development of youths and as such great effort are made to develop our cricketers at all levels.”
Each player will receive a bat, pads, gloves, a helmet, a cricket equipment bag and a set of uniforms.
Foster added that all the recipients of this year’s programme have all shone brightly over the past years.
“This year’s investment is extra special because of the involvement of two young promising female cricketers who are following in the footsteps of our national sportswomen of the year 2013 Shemaine Campbell,” said Foster.
Marketing Manager of Western Union, Natheeah Mendonca, said her company was proud to have assisted the cricketers over the past years.
“We are proud of the RHTY&SC for the work they have been doing and you the young cricketers we know that our investment is not in vain.
“We have seen the benefits of investing in you over the years and we are very happy that we can assist in your development. We are here to help you guys and we are proud that we can help you to grow and do well in your cricketing endeavors,” Mendonca said.
