Two remanded on separate charges of robbery

Two men who appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan on separate charges of robbery were both remanded to prison and ordered to return to court on April 9.

Regan Ramiah was not required to plead to his charge of robbery, while Jason DeNobrega pleaded not guilty.

It was related to the court that Ramiah, 27, is a tattoo artist residing at    158 Campbell Avenue, Campbellville. It is alleged that on March 24, Ramiah and an accomplice robbed Ishwar Singh of $45,000. Constable 21574 Beharry witnessed the incident and as such the defendant was not required to plead. Prosecutor Deniro James objected to bail for the defendant on the grounds that violence was used during the altercation.

Meanwhile, DeNobrega, 22, who hails from Fort Ordnance, Berbice was accused of stealing a Nokia cellphone valued at $9,000 from the back pocket of Natasha Dudson, a charge to which he pleaded not guilty.

The phone is yet to be recovered.

Upon hearing that the accused was remanded, the VC declared “Me nah wan he jail, leh he jus gimme de money back.”
