Accused of hitting his reputed wife to the mouth with a gun, a Charlotte Street welder was yesterday remanded to prison despite requests from the woman to have the matter dismissed.
Thirty-three-year-old Clive Ford denied that he inflicted grievous bodily harm on Redalana Smith on March 14 in Fifth Street, Alberttown.
Objections were raised to bail by Prosecutor Deniro Jones who expressed the possibility of the defendant interfering with the woman.
According to Jones, Ford is always in the habit of abusing his common-law wife of six years. On the date in question, Jones said, Ford took an iron and burned Smith’s leg and followed that with a hit to the woman’s mouth with a .32 revolver. Ford then dealt the mother of his child several cuffs about the body, Jones added.
In an appeal to Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan, Smith indicated that she did not wish to proceed with the matter. Though she maintained that the abuse had happened, she explained that she wanted the case dropped because Ford was her “child father”.
Ford was nevertheless remanded to prison and a protection order was ordered by the magistrate for Smith.
The case was adjourned until April 9 when it will come up before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
