Defending champions St. George’s High defeated the Bishops’ High 4-2 to seal their semi-final spot when the quarterfinal round of the Milo/Petra Organization U-20 school football tourney concluded yesterday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
Falling behind to a Shaquille Mosley strike in the 13th minute, the defending champions would level the scores in the 20th minute through a Roddy McGloggan right strike into the left hand corner of the net, from within the right side of the box.
St. George’s would eventually take the lead 10 minutes later as McGloggan completed his double, slotting his right-footed effort over the advancing keeper down the middle of the net, from inside the centre of the penalty area.
The score line would soon become 3-1 as Curt Rohee added his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 39th minute, lashing his right-footed effort into the bottom left-hand corner from inside the right side of the 18-yard box.
Goalkeeper Orin Forde would cap a clinical showing by the North Road outfit as he scored with a powerfully struck, low right-footed free kick from just outside the right side of the box that nestled in the lower left-hand corner of the net.
The Carmichael Street side would grab a consolation goal in the 61st minute as Nathaniel King netted compliments of a penalty kick conversion.
In the final quarterfinal matchup, Christ Church Secondary edged Queenstown Secondary by a 1-0 score line compliments of a Lonsdale George 5th minute strike. On Wednesday at the same venue, Lodge Secondary overcame Queen’s College by a 3-0 score line to seal their semi-final berth.
Shemar Smith would net the opener for the Jamoon Street unit in the 37th minute striking his effort into the bottom of the net, after pouncing on a mistake caused by miscommunication between the final defender and the goalkeeper within the penalty area.
The lead would be doubled in the 48th minute as Jarel Granum lashed his right-footed effort into the back of the woodwork from within the right side of the penalty box.
Lodge Secondary would seal the win as Smith completed his double with a powerful header into the roof of the right corner, after collecting a perfectly placed left-sided cross from just outside the right post.
In the earlier fixture of the doubleheader, Dolphin Secondary overcame arch-rivals Charlestown Secondary by a 2-0 margin in a physical derby match.
Dakhown Matthews opened the scoring for the winners in the 48th minute through a powerfully struck right-footed free kick from the top of the 18 yard box, which settled into the top left-hand corner of the net, giving the opposing keeper no chance.
The win would be sealed in the 69th minute as Lenroy Forde slotted home his right-footed effort into the back of the net from the right side of the 18-yard box, after being in a one-on-one situation with the Charlestown keeper.
