Supply and South Ruimveldt Primary Schools were crowned champions of their respective districts as Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Scotia Bank’s Kiddies Cricket tournament concluded in the Georgetown and East Bank districts.
Playing at Thirst Park Ground yesterday, Supply defeated Providence Primary by 90 runs to win the East Bank district, while South Georgetown winners, South Ruimveldt outplayed North Georgetown winners, St Agnes to be crowned Georgetown champions.
In the highly anticipated game of the day, South Ruimveldt took first strike and made 184-4 in their 10 overs. Antonio Allen who muscled his way to 19 was the principal scorer for his team, while Kemar Boyce (15) and Troyston Louise (13) provided valuable support.
In reply, St Agnes with the constant loss of wickets fell short by 67 runs, as they ended on 117-9 when their 10 overs expired. Dominique Glasgow (16) and Sigidi Andrews (14) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Bowling for South Ruimveldt Primary Kevin John and Oshazay Savoury were the chief wicket takers with two wickets each.
Earlier in the day’s first match, East Georgetown champions FE Pollard went down to South Ruimveldt Primary by 22 runs. FE Pollard batted first to register a score of 145-6 in 10 overs, assisted by 25 extras. Dinero Persaud and Kevon John took two wickets each as they spearheaded South Ruimveldt’s bowling attack.
In reply, South Ruimveldt made 167-4 in 10 overs, with Antonio Allen (15) and Kemar Boyce (8) leading the way with the bat.
In the mostly one-sided game of the day Central East Bank champions, Supply Primary defeated lower East Bank Champions, Providence to take East Bank honours. Batting first Supply made a competitive 152-8 from 10 overs, with David Scott hitting a top score of 19 that included two maximums. Alex Gouveia (12) and Princess McPherson (10) provided Scott with much needed support.
Asif Khan and Navita Mohabir claimed two wickets each for Providence who in reply were bowled out in their 10 overs for a paltry score of 62. Alex Gouveia, Kenrick Salvador and Brenda Ramascindo took two wickets each to give their team victory by a large margin of 90 runs.
Earlier, Upper East Bank champions Timehri defeated Providence by 31 runs. After taking first strike, Timehri managed to score 151-6 in 10 overs, with David Sam making 14. Vick Prakash was the chief bowler for Providence with a figure of 2-2.
In reply, Providence reached 124-6 at the end of their allotted overs, Ajit Kemraj and Indira Amardeo being the joint top scorers with 10. Cecilia Narine was the pick of Timehri’s bowlers as she ended with two wickets.
