Guyana’s one-day skipper Christopher Barnwell and Guyana’s four day captain Leon Johnson will lead their respective sides and arch rivals the Demerara Cricket Club and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) when play in the Georgetown Cricket Association Hadi’s World Incorporated division one, two-day competition gets underway today at the GCC ground, Bourda.
The defending champions DCC, led by Barnwell, opens their season against one of their toughest opponents in GCC,
whose side will also include national players Robin Bacchus and Vishaul `Cheesy’ Singh.
The other first division match on today will be keenly contested as leaders Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) face off with Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) at the Malteenoes Ground, Thomas Land.
MSC, who won outright against TSC last week will once again have home advantage and will be led by Kellon Carmichael, with former national youth players Shaquille Williams and Steven Sankar also in the lineup while GNIC will have Collis Butts as their skipper with Ranole Bourne as his deputy. Both matches are set to bowl off at 9:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, in the Noble House Seafoods Second Division (two-day) competition starting at 11:00hrs today, Third Class Cricket Club will play Sophia Cricket Club at GYO while the University of Guyana UG) will play Everest Cricket Club at Turkeyen
Meanwhile the Carib Beer first division T20 competition at Eve Leary gets underway this morning from 9:30 a.m. The first game will be contested between Police and Transport Sports Club (TSC) while the final game will be played from 2pm between the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO).
