Pele FC led by a Deon Alfred double, defeated Camptown FC by a margin 2-0 when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) division one league continued at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ground, Vlissengen Road and Carifesta Avenue on Thursday.
Alfred would open the scoring in the eight minute, slotting home his effort into the lower right hand corner from inside the centre of the penalty area, after collecting a left sided cross that evaded both central defenders.
Further trouble would befall the Campbellville side in the 28th minute as winger Jamal Codrington was controversially issued a straight red card for showing dissent towards the official.
Camptown almost fell further behind in the 42nd minute as an Okeene Fraser right footed attempt from outside the right half of the penalty area, sailed just wide of sneaking into the lower left hand corner.
Surrendering the lion’s share of possession and forced to attack on the counter due to their numerical disadvantage, Anthony Sancho almost found the equaliser in the 60th minute, only for his right footed attempt from within the 18 yard box was denied by the advancing Pele custodian Devon Charles.
Pele would double their lead five minutes later as Alfred completed his double through a simple finish to the lower left hand corner from inside the centre of the penalty area, after latching onto a neatly played through pass from just outside the box.
The attacking struggles would continue for the Camptown side as forward Devon Forde was denied in the 77th minute from within the right side of the box by Charles, who upon advancing off his goalline smothered the resulting danger.
In the earlier second division matchup, Riddim Squad and Black Pearl played to a 1-1 draw. Kester Joseph opened the scoring for Riddim Squad with a 32nd minute conversion. Black Pearl would salvage a point a Jason Clarke netted in the 72nd minute.
