The Police Progressive Youth Club (PPYC) amassed 116 points and emerged winners of the relay championship they hosted Sunday at Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was relegated to second with 88 points and Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) was the second runner up after tallying 78 points.
The 2012 Olympian, Winston George was instrumental in helping the Police club to capture the men’s 4x200m in 1:31.7s and the men’s 4x400m in 3:27.7s.
In the 4x200m, GDF placed second in 1:33.0s while CWSS was third in 1:39.9s. The 4×400 metres was much of the same as GDF finished second again in 3:36.2s while CWSS was third in 4:00.3s.
On the distaff side, PPYC captured the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and medley relay events in 52.1s, 1:47.6s, 4:14.3s and 1:52.5s respectively. The Police men also won their medley event in 3:28.1s.
In the schools’ competition which was solely sponsored by Hits and Jams Entertainment, St John’s College ran away with the spoils after tallying 74 points while Kinston High School was second with 43 points and Tutorial High School third with 35 points.
Queenstown Secondary finished fourth with 26 points.
St John’s also won the male and female medley, male and female 4x400m, the male 4×100 and the male 4x200m events.
During the presentation ceremony which was held immediately after the day’s events, coach of the PPYC, Lyndon Wilson thanked the sponsors, GuyOil, Macorp, Digicel, Wartsila, Hits and Jams Entertainment and former Commissioner of the Police Leroy Brummell.
