Mocha Champs brushed aside Alberttown/Bourda by a 4-2 margin when the first annual Grassroots Foundation inter-ward knockout football tournament continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda on Tuesday.
Steffon Ramsay opened the scoring for the winners compliments of a fifth minute header into the back of the net from a corner kick.
The East Bank of Demerara side would surrender the lead five minutes later as Calvin Shepherd netted with a simple finish to the bottom of the net, after the goalkeeper missed the ball in his attempt to gather.
Mocha would retake the lead in the 24th minute with Teon Jones slotting home his right footed effort into the back of the goal after collecting a simple squared left sided pass from Sheldon Hope.
They would double their lead in the 63rd minute of the second period as Dwayne O’Reilly netted through a right footed strike to the lower left hand corner of the net, following a lobbed left sided through pass.
Alberttown/Bourda would cut the deficit to one in the 78th minute as Shepherd completed his double with a finish to the right hand side of the goal from the penalty spot following an infringement within the area.
The Georgetown side would, however, fail to claim the timely equaliser as Jones sealed the win for the Mocha side, completing his double with a finish to the back of the goal in the 86th minute. The second matchup of the doubleheader saw Charlestown defeating Tiger Bay 3-1.
