Fruta Conquerors FC President Wayne Forde said yesterday that he believes the National Milling Company’s (Namilco) One Love Football Festival will eventually develop into the nation’s leading club tournament.
Speaking via telephone during an exclusive interview, Forde said: “At this point in time I believe we are the number two premier tournament in the country, second only to the Banks tournament. I say this because the event is professionally organized and managed and well-funded by Namilco.
“We are confident that the company will continue to offer the sponsorship for years to come and see the tournament growing to become the number one tournament in the not so distant future,” added Forde.
Questioned about the influence of the event to the club, Forde said: “The contribution that the tournament has made to the clubs has benefitted almost all the Georgetown clubs because they all use that facility for their team preparation. Georgetown tournaments also have been played at the facility.”
According to Forde much of the improvements that have been made was due to the funds that have been generated through the Namilco tournament. “Specifically we have upgraded our stands and have constructed an official’s stand as well as upgraded our clubhouse with a plumbing system and lighting,” he declared.
“Namilco as a responsible corporate citizen recognizes the integral role they play in empowering football organizations such as the Fruta Conquerors. They clearly understand the funds we raise during their event go back to benefiting the community, the people of the community and more than the 150 players in every age group we have.
“All in all the money we have earned throughout the tournament has been focused on the infrastructure of the Tucville ground and that is quite a remarkable achievement,” added Forde.
