An Angoy’s Avenue man died in hospital yesterday after he was severely burnt in a fire at his home.
Prince Sinclair, 38, of Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, died in the wee hours of the morning at the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he had been admitted on Thursday night after being rushed there.
According to hospital officials, Sinclair, called ‘Tony,’ succumbed to third degree burns.
A sister of the dead man, Corrida Bacchus, told reporters that the fire occurred at around 8:45pm on Thursday. According to Bacchus, she was at a neighborhood shop when a village girl told her that her brother was engulfed in fire. “A lil girl come and tell meh that Tony house catch fire and I get so shock I start scream,” the distraught sister remarked. She further added that after she composed herself, she and other residents rushed to the scene where she saw her brother lying, still covered by flames. “Me and the boy hustle and pull grass out from the yard and try to out the fire on he… we then wrap he up in a bed sheet and take him hospital,” she stated.
The origin of the fire was unknown but it was suspected that Sinclair may have started the fire himself.
