Newly-elected President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Lance Hinds says rebuilding the secretariat is a major priority for this year.
Hinds made the disclosure at the introduction of the new members of GCCI’s Executive Management Committee to the media yesterday. Nicholas Boyer of National Hardware has been appointed as the new Secretary while Vishnu Durga of Durga Enterprises is the new Senior Vice-President. Padma Prashad of ANSA McAL was also appointed as the new Junior Vice- President and Eon Grant of Republic Bank remains the Treasurer of GCCI for the year 2014/2015.
Hinds of Brain Street Group of Companies said that works that have started will continue. He added that the GCCI will mainly be focusing on the rebuilding of their Secretariat. Hinds said that a new building to house the secretariat is long overdue. “The designs are in, proposals are in and next we will draw up a tender to get suppliers for the entire activity which we are in the process of doing,” he said.
In addition, research on Intellectual Property Legislation (IPL) is also of interest to GCCI and Hinds said that they are trying to determine the effect of the lack of modern legislation in business, society, cultural industries and music production amongst others. He stressed that the first order is to look at the existing effects of the lack of current legislation in the society.
Seminars normally hosted by GCCI will continue according to Hinds and the next seminar which is based on Human Capital Development will be held on May 7. He added that a Leader Cast Seminar will be held on May 9 and a distinguished lecture series will begin on June 2.
Hinds said also that the annual Business Guyana magazine will be launched on June 5.
The first meeting for the newly elected executive members will be held next week, Hinds said while adding that the GCCI expects to establish its plans for the entire year which will be presented to the entire council and membership for approval.
