Determination will meet efficiency when defending champions St. George’s Secondary battle arch rivals Lodge Secondary in the final of the Milo/Petra Organization U20 schools football tournament today at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue from 18:00hrs.
Made to work in their 2-0 semifinal victory over Christ Church Secondary, St. George’s will need an improved all-round performance from Quincy Lawrence, Adolph George, Okeri Codrington and Ozeal Small if they are to successfully defend their title against the clinical Lodge unit.
Overcoming a very difficult semi-final against Dolphin Secondary by a 3-1 score line, Lodge will hope that their potent attacking threat of Orlando Gravesande, Jarel Granum, Tavel Jonas and Kevin Boters once again come to the party, if they are to dethrone the current holders.
Yannick Butler, coach of St. George’s Secondary during an invited comment said that preparation for the final has been progressing well and that he expects his charges to come out victorious.
“There is a lot of anxiety. I am trying not to let the boys go into the game too over confident. The team is as good as us, they are very much a capable side. They have players that come out of my hand when I was Fruta Conquerors youth coach.
“However, I have to back my team and let the best team win. We will go to our blackboard as well do some basics on the field leading up the game. We will also work on our set pieces during the light session,” added Butler.
Lodge Secondary Leon Bishop coach during an invited comment said:“Preparation has been coming fantastic. We have been working hard towards to the final and getting the little things together in terms of tactics wise.
“We are expecting to win, but in saying that, we have to go out there and executive our game play win and we will win. We have a quality squad with a lot of players who would have tasted success before. We have just to go out there and keep the focus and be successful.
“We know that they their midfield are their creators and once we stop them it should will put a break in the team,” added Bishop.
In the third place playoff at 16:00hrs, Christ Church Secondary will battle Dolphin Secondary in what promises to be a high scoring affair.
Winners of the event will receive $500,000 towards the building of any school project as well as the respective trophy and medals while the second and third place finishers will collect $300,000 and $200,000 respectively towards the building of any school project.
They will also receive the corresponding trophy and medals whilst the fourth place finishers will receive $100,000 towards the building of any school project and the respective trophy.
Prior to the commencement of the event, a workshop in collaboration with the Ministry of Heath was hosted to highlight the issues and plight surrounding gender violence.
