The Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) will this morning stage its second competition of the year, a memorial tournament in honour of past presidents Cheddi and Janet Jagan.
The competition will be held at the Guyana National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue commencing at 11:00 hrs.
According to a press release, the one-day competition, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, will feature top teams such as Achievers, the University of Guyana (UG), the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and new comers Bartica volleyball team.
According to the release, the DVA said that it was pleased that Bartica, will be participating in the competition as it augurs well for the growth and promotion of the sport. The competition will also feature female teams who are also keen on showcasing their skills and talents.
Several trophies will be up for grabs including those for the first and second placed teams, in the male and female divisions, the best spiker (both male and female), the best server (male and female) and the MVP’s for both male and female competitions. Participating teams will have to pay an entrance fee of $1000. The public is invited and entrance to the competition is free.
