It was the pilot of the Trans Guyana plane who first noticed that the plane’s door was open during flight and returned to the Ogle Airport, PR for the company Kit Nascimento said.
On Sunday morning, the Trans Guyana plane with 14 persons on board had departed for Port Kaituma but was forced to return, shortly after takeoff. Reports are that the door of the plane began rattling scaring passengers and some of the passengers claimed that they first noticed the faulty door and raised an alarm with the pilot.
However, Nascimento disputed this. “No that is entirely false… When the plane took off from Ogle the warning light came on informing the pilot that the door wasn’t closed and he immediately returned to Ogle…,” Nascimento said when asked about the incident.
He said that the door’s locking mechanism was a somewhat complex one and while checks were made before the plane departed it could not be detected that the door would not remain closed as the locks closed as normal before takeoff.
He said that although the latch on the door was open there was no way the plane’s door would have flung open in midair as the secondary part of the lock would have kept it closed.
Over last year there has been an increase in the number of aviation accidents and incidences.
