North East La Penitence edged Mocha 7-6 on sudden death kicks after normal and extra time finished 3-3 line when the first annual Grassroots Foundation Inter-Ward knockout football tournament, continued on Tuesday at the Tucville Community Centre ground.
Dorville Stewart opened the scoring for Mocha in the 24th minute through a penalty kick conversion to the left hand corner following a rash challenge inside the area.
North East would level the scores 11 minutes later as Orvin Millington netted through a penalty kick to the bottom left hand corner, after being awarded the spot kick for a rash challenge within the left side of the area.
Aquill Liefale would restore Mocha’s lead in the 66th minute, slotting home his effort into the bottom left hand corner after collecting a right sided cross. Their lead would be short-lived as Millington netted his brace one minute later through a strike to the bottom of the net.
With the fixture evenly poised, North East would suffer a setback in the 72nd minute as Shaquille Brown picked up his second bookable offence.
To add insult to injury, Mocha would retake the lead one minute later through a Royan Morrison own goal to the left hand side. Standing within the centre of the area to defend a left sided cross, Morrison in his attempt to clear the danger, deflected the ball into his own net.
Failing to exploit their numerical advantage, Mocha would concede the equalizer in the 75th minute as Andrew Murray Jr. scored compliments of a goal scramble within the centre of the area, forcing the fixture into extra time and eventually penalty kicks. The earlier matchup witnessed Wortmanville crushing Kingston by a 6-0 score line.
