Dear Editor,
A resolution to amalgamate the Guyana Legion and the Ex-GDF Association was welcomed with great applause and excitement. The resolution which was delivered by Frank Bishpan (Colonel rtd) was seconded by a ninety-year-old World War II Veteran Gladwyn Nestor. The resolution attracted a one hundred per cent vote in favour. This birthed a new organization for military veterans which will now be recognized and renamed the Guyana Veterans Legion.
A new constitution was presented to the membership by the President George Gomes (Lieutenant-Colonel rtd). The new constitution evoked extensive discussion before being endorsed by all present. Highlighted in the constitution were a) the new name of the organisation, b) the new motto, and c) specific and improved benefits for World War veterans, among other things. This Special General Members Meeting was held at its headquarters on Carifesta Avenue, on Sunday April 6, 2014 at which attendance was in excess of two hundred members. The meeting was chaired by the President of the organisation while greetings were extended by visiting representatives of the New York and Canada Chapters of the Ex-GDF Association.
Meetings at the Guyana Veterans headquarters will be held on the first Sunday of each month at 14:00hrs. The new executive will pay visits to the Berbice and Linden branches.
Yours faithfully,
Eon Andrews
