– East Ruimveldt blank Campbellville 4-nil
North/South Ruimveldt squeaked past Kitty 4-3 when the first annual Grassroots Foundation Inter-ward Knockout Football Tournament, continued Tuesday at the Tucville Community Centre ground.
Dwayne Lawrence opened the scoring for the winners in the 13th minute with a strike to the back of the net, after latching onto a Vurlon Mills through-pass. Six minutes later, their lead doubled when Travis Thornhill netted through a right footed strike to the bottom of the net following a right side cross.
Eon Alleyne then made it 3-0 in the 26th minute, slotting home his right footed penalty effort into the right hand side of the net, following an infringement inside the area.
Kitty pulled one back in the 44th minute as Deron Bowen scored through a right footed shot to the right hand side of the net, after pouncing on a deflected strike by the opposing custodian from inside the centre of the area.
Wendell St Hill reduced the deficit further for the Kitty unit, placing his towering header from inside the left side of the box into the right hand side of the goal, following a right sided corner kick.
The comeback was completed two minutes later when substitute striker Anthony Sancho levelled the score with a finish down the middle of the goal, after collecting a cross from a left sided free kick.
With the scores levelled, Alleyne netted what proved to be the go-ahead winner in the 87th minute, striking his effort down the middle of the goal after evading the on-rushing custodian following a through pass from the centre of the midfield.
The second match-up of the evening witnessed East Ruimveldt crushing Campbellville 4-0.
East Ruimveldt’s Chris Hyderkan opened the scoring in the 48th minute compliments of a strike to the right hand corner of the net, after evading multiple defenders within the left side of the penalty area.
Four minutes later, Vincent Thomas netted, powering his 22-yard right footed effort from the centre of the field into the top right hand corner of the net, doubling the lead. Thomas completed his double in the 64th minute as he lobbed the advancing custodian in a one-on-one situation with a right footed attempt from inside the centre of the area, following a neatly played one-two pass combination outside the 18-yard box.
The win was sealed in the 84th minute when Nash Moses scored with a simple right footed finish down the middle of an empty net from inside the penalty box, after evading the keeper.
