A taxi driver, accused of fraudulently converting over $1M, is now on bail after he appeared before a city magistrate.
Shemel Thomas denied that he used $1,070,000 entrusted to him by Jennifer Sertimer, to procure a lawyer.
According to Thomas’ lawyer Paul Fung-A-Fat, the 32-year-old defendant was given the money during the period February 1, 2013 to March 28, 2013, to pay a bribe.
Thomas was granted a $150,000 bail release and the case was adjourned until May 9, when statements are expected to be filed.
