(Trinidad Express) While Eastern Division police were on a crime scene in which a father killed his two children before killing himself in Matura yesterday morning, they received reports that a young couple had been gunned down in broad daylight at their fruit stall in Valencia.
Police reported that at about 11 a.m. yesterday, residents of Valencia Old Road, Valencia, reported hearing several loud explosions.
When they peeked outside, they observed three men running into a blue Hyundai Matrix motor vehicle which was parked outside a fruit and vegetable stall on the east-bound lane of the roadway. The men then sped away in the car.
After the suspects had gone from sight, residents went to the fruit stall, and were horrified to find the bullet riddled bodies of a man and woman lying on the ground of the stall.
The police were notified and a party of officers from the Eastern Division and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, including ACP Glenda Jennings-Smith, Senior Superintendent Othneil Williams, Superintendent Aroon Ramkelawan, ASP Neville Sankar, Inspector Latchman, Sgt Keith Leon, Cpl Hernandez, PC Mootoo, and PC Hosein, as well as other officials from the Sangre Grande CID, the Valencia CID, and the Eastern Division Task Force, visited the scene.
The couple were later identified as Tristan Proudfoot of Mark Trace, Valencia, and his wife, 21-year-old Narissa Phillip.
Proudfoot, police said, was originally from Beetham Gardens, while Phillip was orginally from Phase Two, La Horquetta.
Police said that Proudfoot had been shot in his neck and upper body, while Phillip was shot in her chest and right hand.
Police sources told Express yesterday that they believe the shooting stemmed from a recent altercation between Proudfoot and another man, both of whom are well known to the police.
Investigations are continuing.
These four murders have officially pushed the murder toll of this year to 128.
