Georgetown Prison tested its response capacity

The Georgetown Prison tested its response capacity yesterday, in the event of a prison break, fire or some other crisis.Aided by three fire trucks from the Guyana Fire Service and heavily armed ranks from the Guyana Police Force, the perimeter of Camp Street Prison was secured.Deputy Director of Prisons Carl Graham told Sunday Stabroek that the scene that caused some concern among curious passer-by was merely a security exercise that the prison conducts periodically. “We had scenarios to test our response capability,” and that the main focus was in the event of a prison break or a fire.One woman approached armed police ranks and asked the officers if a prisoner had broken out of the prison. “I would help you’ll catch he,” she volunteered, but eventually walked off when the amused officers assured her no prisoner had escaped.
