Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett said the Caribbean has lost one of its finest minds with the passing of Professor Norman Girvan.
“The magnitude of Professor Girvan’s success in the varied roles which he undertook is measured by the extent of his humility and sincerity,” she said, according to a press release from the ministry.
Rodrigues-Birkett said Girvan was highly respected throughout Latin America and the Caribbean and in his capacity as the Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the Good Offices Process.
The ministry extended condolences to his widow Jasmine Girvan and relatives.
