The preliminary inquiry into the murder charge against Sylvester Bristol, who is accused of killing a female taxi driver, is set for commencement following the completion of the police investigation.
Bristol, of Yarrowkabra, had been charged on February 19 with the murder of Savitri Gangadeen Parma. In his initial appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, the man had not been required to plead to the capital offence which alleged that he, between February 15
and the following day, murdered the woman at Dakara Creek, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Parma’s body was found around 6 am on February 16 hours after she went missing. According to reports, the driver had informed her husband that she would be making a drop to Red Loam with an employee of a sand pit owner in the area. Parma’s car was discovered with her sleeping eight-year-old son in the backseat shortly after she had gone missing. A subsequent post-mortem examination revealed that she had died from strangulation and had also suffered a broken neck.
Before Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry, Prosecutor Bharat Mangru requested a date for the commencement of the preliminary inquiry (PI). Hence, Bristol will make several appearances beginning on May 27 through May 30.
