Michael Clarke, a former national junior table tennis player on Saturday presented a quantity of equipment to the Guyana Table Tennis Association at Olympic House, High Street, Georgetown.
During the presentation Clarke stated that this was his initial gesture to the GTTA
for the development of table tennis in Guyana. The USA-based Clarke recalled how difficult it was to obtain equipment during his playing days hence his decision to give back to the sport he loves.
Clarke, who began playing at age 14 at the YMCA pavilion also stated that if he can do the necessary to make Guyana more competitive, he will, and he see this period as the fitting time to do so.
Godfrey Munroe President of the GTTA welcomed Clarke’s initial gesture, stating it is fitting when somebody who has benefitted from the sport could come back and extend that benevolence. He added that the organization will be using the gear in its developmental programmes. He also mentioned the “Open Door Policy” of the GTTA that allows an individual or a business entity to handle the finances of a tournament stating that his organization will facilitate this.
