All charges against the CEO of Strategic Action Security (SAS) Richard Kanhai in relation to the discovery of missing government equipment on his property have been dropped.
The revelation was made last night by House Speaker Raphael Trotman as the National Assembly’s Committee of Supply continued its consideration the budgetary estimates allocated for the various regions.
It was APNU MP Winston Felix who noted that the owner of the security firm was taken before the court after several items, including laptops to be distributed under the One Laptop Per Family (OLPF) project were found in a secure building he owns. Despite court proceedings against the company’s CEO, Felix said, he continued to be issued contracts to guard government property.
The items were discovered during a raid last June. Though the details which led to the dismissal of the case were not shared, Trotman said the man’s lawyer, after reading Felix’s comments on an online news site, called him and explained that the charges had been dropped.
The Speaker did not say when the charges were dropped.
