Caught with two grammes of cannabis, an East La Penitence man was yesterday fined and ordered to perform community service at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Michael Quintin, 20, accepted that he had the narcotic in his possession. The prosecution asserted that Quintin was caught with the cannabis, while he was at a bridge at Freeman Street, East La Penitence.
According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, a police patrol in the area about 10:30hrs, saw the defendant acting in a suspicious manner and with his consent conducted a search. Jones added that the drug was found in Quintin’s left side front pants pocket. The court heard that Quintin was told of the offence, arrested and charged.
Magistrate Ann McLennan later imposed a $15,000 fine, together with four weeks community service every Monday and Friday from 7 am to 8 am on the defendant. The magistrate informed Quintin that defaulting on the sentence will result in him serving four weeks in jail.
