A woman who assaulted her husband was yesterday fined $10,000 when she appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.
The court heard that on April 11 at Charity Housing Scheme, Aloma Laurie unlawfully assaulted her reputed husband, Daringer Deonarine.
According to police facts, on the day on question, Deonarine went home and told Laurie he was going out. An argument ensued and to prevent him from leaving the yard, Laurie pulled Deonarine’s shirt causing a button to snap and then dealt him a slap on his right cheek.
Laurie refuted these claims, saying she and Deonarine were drinking and they had an argument before he left to go on the road. She claimed that he hit her Boulanger plants with his bicycle and she responded by slapping him.
Laurie who was not represented pleaded guilty to the charge and the fine was then imposed.
