Dear Editor,
I am seventeen years old and I live in Danielstown on the Essequibo Coast. I am also a young Guyanese singer. My stage name is ‘Lyrical Dan’ and there is a situation that is bothering the majority of young Guyanese singers that I would like to address.
Guyanese people are very talented and they also produce good music, which sometimes runs like wildfire on the radio waves. The only problem is that the singers do not gain anything from their music. This is due to the fact that the relevant authorities in the government are not enforcing the copyright law. This law should be enforced to help Guyanese people make money for what they love doing. For the youths in Essequibo, there is no studio for recording and when the young singers have to travel to Georgetown to record their music, it is very expensive and their music is not favoured.
I’m hoping that this issue can be addressed and my concerns can be heard.
Yours faithfully,
Curtly Lake
