Two Albouystown men were yesterday brought to court on drug possession charges as police embark on an initiative to minimise crime in the community.
Newly-assigned police ranks arrested Dwayne Isaacs Riley and Robert Kissoon, who appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan.
While patrolling in Albouystown on April 13th, the police officers pulled Riley over for a search on Hunter Street. Upon searching him, they discovered a transparent packet in one of his pockets containing what appeared to be cannabis.
Riley was informed of the suspicion and arrested. He pleaded guilty to the charge of possession and was fined $15,000 and ordered to perform four weeks of community service.
Kissoon, who was also arrested on Sunday, was allegedly found in possession of four grammes of cannabis. He also faced a second charge for the possession of a utensil which appeared to be an improvised version of a pipe used to smoke cocaine. He pleaded not guilty and was granted $20,000 bail on each charge. He will return to court on May 16th.
Last Friday, police launched ‘Project Impact Albouystown,’ through which it is partnering with community organisations to make the area safer.
