On April 11 and April 12, 2014, ranks of the police “ D” Division (West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo) continued with their outreach programme to several communities.
A release from the police said that Divisional Commanders have been engaged in these outreach programmes with the aim of fostering better police community relations and to interact with residents.
During the period the communities visited by the “D” Division police, headed by the Divisional Commander Senior Superintendent Ian Amsterdam, included Parika, Leonora, Den Amstel, Vreed-en-hoop, Bagotville and Patentia.
During the meetings, the release said that the police emphasised the need to garner public support in the fight against crime and encouraged residents to form and maintain Community Policing Groups.
The Divisional Commander and team listened to the concerns voiced by the residents and made suggestions on the way forward.
Some of the concerns raised were police confidentiality, the indisciplined attitude of some ranks to members of the public, truancy, the removal of tint from vehicles, stepped up patrols, and noise nuisance.
