Gold miner gets two months for drug possession

A 43-year-old gold miner was on Tuesday sentenced to two weeks in prison by Magistrate Sunil Scarce, when he appeared before the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court charged with the possession of narcotics.

The police alleged that on April 11 at Queenstown, Essequibo Coast, Rudolph Carrington had in his possession two grammes of narcotics.

The man, who is a father of six and was not represented, pleaded guilty to the charge read to him.

According to the police facts, on the day in question, the police were on patrol in the area and Carrington was seen acting in a suspicious manner. He was searched and the narcotics were found on his person.
