The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNRE) in collaboration with the Protected Areas/National Parks Commission advises that nominal fees will be charged for vendors and patrons wishing to take their vehicles into the Botanical Gardens and the northern side of the Joe Vieira Park today.
Fees will be charged at the National Park as well by a duly authorized franchise holder.
According to a press release, the fees collected will primarily be used to counterbalance the expenses incurred in cleaning the gardens and parks of the garbage and debris left in the aftermath of the kite flying and picnicking activities.
At the Botanical Gardens, the Vlissengen Road gate will be opened to vehicular traffic at 6 am and closed at 5.30 pm and by 6.30 pm all vehicles will have to exit the gardens via the Mandela Avenue gate, the release said.
It added that vehicles will only be allowed to enter the gardens through the Vlissengen Road gate and will not be allowed on/in front of the Zoo access road.
Events at the National Park, according to the release, will be managed by the authorized franchise holder.
For the Joe Vieira Park, the gate will be opened at 7.30 am and additional garbage receptacles and bags will be made available to the public while park volunteers will be present to answer questions and provide garbage bags where available.
