A patient half century by Darian Dickson guided Demerara Cricket Club ‘A’ to a seven-wicket victory over hosts Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Brainstreet U-15 limited overs tournament continued yesterday.
Dickson slammed seven fours in a top score of 65 not out to help the visitors charge to their target of 153 for the loss of three wickets in 32.1 overs.
He shared a 50-run, second-wicket partnership with Alphius Bookie (17) after Sachin Singh (05) was removed LBW by Chandra Mohan with the score on 18.
Dickson utilized 102 deliveries in his innings and also featured in a third wicket stand of 45 with Ronell Brandis who was dismissed for 25 (3×4). Sagar Hitharamani was unbeaten on 17 when DCC ‘A’ reached its target. Bowling for GYO, Mohan, Pradesh Balkishun and Brandon Matthews took a wicket each.
Earlier, GYO made 152 all out in 48.1 overs after electing to bat. Ronald Basdeo top scored with 41 with eight fours while Balkishun and El Nathan supported with 18 and 17 respectively.
Navindra Persaud and Balkishun put together 37 runs for the second wicket after the loss of an early wicket. However, Persaud (08) was run out at 41-2. Basdeo and Nathan came together for a fifth wicket partnership of 45 to give GYO a competitive innings but the rest of the batting offered little support. Extras accounted for 34 of their eventual total as Ashmead Need and Junior Phillips grabbed two wickets each.
