Wortmanville/Bent Street edged Charlestown by a 2-1 score line in their quarterfinal match when the first annual Grassroots Foundation inter-ward knockout football tourney continued on Thursday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
Winger John Waldron would open the scoring for the winners in the 11th minute, stabbing home his effort into the back of the net from within the penalty area, following a goal mouth scrimmage.
They would double their lead in the 60th minute through an Anthony Abrams left footed strike. Racing into the left side of the box to collect a throw, the mercurial number nine would unleash a well-placed effort that rocketed past the custodian and into the right hand corner of the net.
Charlestown would eventually pull one back in the 82nd minute compliments of Kester Jacobs own goal. Positioned just in front of the right upright, Jacobs would inadvertently direct his headed clearance from a right sided Keron Solomon cross, into the right hand corner of the net.
In the second quarterfinal matchup of the doubleheader, North East La Penitence overcame a spirited East Ruimveldt unit by a 2-0 score to seal a berth in the semi-final round.
