A Corentyne teen is currently a patient in the intensive care unit of the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after he was stabbed by two men near a popular Chinese restaurant. Nineteen-year-old Kevin Crandon on Monday night sustained stab wounds below his chin and to his head.
According to Crandon’s mother, Shimoon Crandon, her children went to the beach on Monday and were later in New Amsterdam liming at Lim Kang’s Chinese Restaurant when two men confronted her son. She said it was unclear as what really occurred, but she was told by another son that his brother was the victim of a “stick-up.” She said he explained to her that he saw the men place an ice pick to Kevin’s abdomen. However, it is unclear how he was actually injured.
A sister also told Stabroek News that she and her husband were in the car waiting for her brothers to return. However, they got to the vehicle, Kevin was covered in blood and they rushed him to the hospital.
The mother said she was at home around 21:00 hrs, when her daughter called and informed her that Kevin had been stabbed. The distraught woman said she and her husband rushed to the hospital but when they got there he was undergoing surgery.
She enquired if a report was made to the police and was told no. She said she then instructed her younger son who witnessed the incident to make a report at the central police station. She said he was told that investigators would meet him at the hospital but no one showed up though the family was there until 03:00 hrs. Nevertheless, they returned to the station yesterday morning and filed a report. According to the family, they were asked if knew the suspect and explained they could identify the person but had no name. They said they were told to get the name of the suspect and report back to investigators. Crandon is reported to be in a stable condition.
