North/South Ruimveldt edged Sophia by a 4-3 score line when the quarterfinal round of the Grassroots Foundation Inter-Ward Knockout tourney concluded on Sunday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
Shemroy Arthur gave Sophia the early lead in the third minute, capitalising on a miscommunication between the defender and custodian inside the box to finish his effort to the bottom of the net.
North/South Ruimveldt would level the scores 11 minutes later as Trevon Lythcott netted through a penalty kick conversion following a foul inside the area.
Sophia would retake the lead in the 21st minute as Kwesi Rolston compliments of a right footed strike to the bottom left hand corner of the net, after pouncing on a parried save by the North/South custodian from a right sided strike.
The Sophia side would then suffer a setback in the 64th minute as Arthur picked up his second bookable offence for showing dissent towards the official.
North/South Ruimveldt would quickly capitalise on their numerical advantage as Travis Thornhill equalised one minute later, lobbing his right footed effort over the opposing keeper from the right side of the field, into the left hand corner.
Even with a numerical handicap Sophia would retake the lead in the 79th minute through a hopeful 27 yard flat right footed Kwesi Lewis strike from the centre of the field, which comically went straight through the legs of the goalkeeper and into the net.
However, Dwayne Lawrence would push the fixture into extra time, adding his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 84th minute through a well placed strike to the bottom right hand corner of the net from within he centre of the box, after pouncing on a deflected strike.
North/South would eventually grab the go-ahead winner in the 100th minute as Lawrence completed his brace, finishing his right footed strike to the lower left hand side after receiving a right sided Delon Williams cross within the centre of the penalty area.
