Berbice teams Tucber Park, Police and Cotton Tree Die Hard recorded comprehensive wins in the ongoing 2014 Berbice Cricket Board (BCB)/Elizabeth Styles Under-19 50 overs cricket competition held in the ancient county this past weekend.
At Goed Bananen Land, Tucber Park beat Goed Bananen Land by 191 runs. Batting first Tucber Park scored 255 in 44.2 overs thanks to knocks from Martin Singh (73) and Berbice U19 batsman Hakeem Hinds (61). Randy Baichan picked up 3 for 20 for Goed Bananen Land.
Former Guyana U15 pacer Nial Smith bagged 6 for 19 from 10 overs while Singh bowling his off-spin returned to pick up 2 for 8 to bowl out Goed Bananen Land for a paltry 64.
At the Rose Hall Welfare Ground in Canje, Berbice U19 batsman Leon Andrews hit four fours and three sixes in 86 while Kwesi Mickle 56 (and Marlon Shepherd 46 helped propel Police to 285 in 44.3 overs against Rose Hall Community Centre. Mickle and Andrews came back with their off-spin to claim 4 for 6 and 4 for 19 respectively to skittle out Rose Hall for a paltry 42, giving Police a huge 243-run victory.
In the final match played at D’Edwards, Munesh Hemraj scored 50 while pacer Andre Chesney took 4 for 15 from 4 overs to help Cotton Tree Die Hard to a 121-run victory over the home side after scoring 182 in 31 overs. D’Edward was then routed for 61 in 14 overs courtesy of; Andre Chesney 4 for 15, Leonard Seetayah 2 for 15 and Fizul Mohamed 2 for 16.
