The memorial tournament for Orin Joseph former president of the Georgetown Dominoes Association is set to conclude this weekend with three days of what promises to be fast paced dominoes action featuring the best teams in the country.
According to Organising Secretary of the GDA and one of the country’s top dominoes player himself, Mark Wiltshire, the tournament promises top class dominoes from some of the best players countrywide with lucrative cash prizes at stake to whet the appetites of dominoes connoisseurs.
According to Wiltshire the action will commence tomorrow evening at the National Gymnasium from 6pm
and will continue on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm each day.
Some of the Georgetown teams who have qualified for play tomorrow include Mix Up, Raiders, Providence, TnT, Pacesetters and Phantom.
They will join teams expected from East Bank Essequibo, Mahaica/Mahaicony, Essequibo Islands, Mahdia, Ituni/Kwakwani, east Bank Demerara, West Coast Berbice, Linden, Lethem, East and West Coast Demerara, New Amsterdam/Corentyne, Mabaruma, Port Kaituma, and teams drawn from corporations and ministries.
The winning team will receive $500,000 with sums of $300,000, $100,000 and $60,000 going to the second, third and fourth placed teams.
There will also be a number of cash individual prizes of $10,000 for the MVP, $50000 for the player sharing the first double love, $5000 for the best female and $30,000 for the best uniformed team.
